About Us

Be-Eco is the brainchild of husband and wife team Justin and Michele Chieffo. The Be-Eco bag was inspired by their son Luc who was made aware of recycling at school and the bag was created by Michele who dreamt up the bag in the shower when thinking about her next shopping trip. Having found it worked, they quickly registered the idea with the Patents Office.

By making a spur of the moment call Michele and Justin established a link with a supermarket who was very interested in talking to the couple about the potential to sell the product in their stores.

The creation of the Be-Eco business was chronicled on the ITV1 primetime series, Tycoon. The 5 show series was broadcast in the summer of 2007 and was made by the production team of multi-millionaire Peter Jones.

Justin and Michele first met Peter Jones at the NEC Business Start-up Show in February 2007, where they pitched their idea for the Be-Eco bag. The idea and a potential large order for the Be-Eco bag was already in place, but Michele and Justin wanted advice on the particulars of the contracts. Peter immediately saw the product had potential: “We have a drawer at home which we put all our carrier bags in and when you open it they all fall out”, Peter commented while looking at the bag.

The bags for the supermarket are produced in India. Justin and Michele said "We are grateful to the Fair Trade foundation who have helped us to source a good supply chain using fair trade cotton."

"This whirlwind journey has already taken us from day-dreaming in the shower too supplying the UK’s leading supermarkets, now we believe that anything is possible. We hope our story will inspire you to believe that too."
